Stephen Liff-Anderson, M.S.
is a dynamic, inspiring leader with extensive experience as a
"front-line" worker, including substance abuse counseling,
health education, family therapy and crisis intervention with
at-risk adolescents. He also offers on-site professional training
seminars on multi-cultural sensitivity, consensus management and
a variety of wellness issues. Mr. Liff-Anderson offers consulting
services throughout the Pacific Northwest and co-directs the Ahimsa Sanctuary in Corvallis, Oregon.
There is no more noble a profession than to dedicate one's life to the service of humanity. At some level, we all became service providers with this intention, to offer assistance to those in need, to express in our daily work our compassion and caring for others. Why then do helping professionals experience such a high incidence of burn-out?
The cause is all too obvious, as we live and work in a climate of decreased funding, high caseloads, reductions in education and other essential services, and increased rates of poverty, drug abuse and violence. How can we maintain and project a positive outlook for our clients? To whom do we turn when we need support and encouragement? Who will "Heal the Healer"?
A Day of Respite provides you and your organization with a timely, invaluable opportunity for reflection and rejuvenation. In this seminar you will reexamine your present work environment, assess your levels of Enthusiasm vs. Burn-Out, develop a personal plan for physical & emotional self-care, and return to the office with renewed energy and inspiration for your work. Co-workers attending together will experience enhanced creativity and communication within their professional relationships. At the organizational level, we will explore protocols for providing effective support at all levels, from "front-line" workers to office staff and management.
Counselors, educators, nurses, social workers, health care providers, hospice workers, clergy, law enforcement officers, probation or corrections officers, youth leaders and other concerned individuals will all benefit from attending A Day of Respite.
