The
passing of the Fall 1999 season found Ocean immersed (no pun intended)
in two pet projects: the Ahimsa Springs hot tub and the Ahimsa
Sauna. He is delighted to report that both are now up and running.
The wood-fired sauna features sweet-smelling
cedar benches and a wonderful woodstove
on loan from Gretchen and Rick. On top of the stove sit several
large volcanic basalt stones from the Santiam Pass. Throw water
on these hot stones and the sauna reaches near volcanic temperatures.
The Ahimsa Springs hot tub is a hybrid wood/electric heated
system. Originally we planned to use only wood for heat, but found
that the stove had to be stoked for over 10 hours to raise
the
tub's 500 gallons to soaking temperature. (Wood heating works
well when we have a retreat filled with volunteer stokers &
soakers.) Ocean has spent the first two weeks of Year 2000 fasting
and soaking, even breaking ice to dunk in the frozen cold plunge,
keeping the tub at a very medicinal 104-106 F temperature.
CORRECTION: Due to rising electric rates, the hot tub is now
a "cold plunge", except on those rare times when a crew
can stoke the wood stove for 8 hours. INSTEAD we are now doing
Sweat Lodges in the sauna, also due to the fact the sauna is more
economical regarding wood use. Ocean will lead a purification
ritual in the lodge, with contemplatiive time, prayers and songs
to help us endure the heat! If you'd like to be informed of the
next sweat, send email
to Ocean.

There is no longer
any question about the role our diet plays in maintaining optimal
health. Both alternative and traditional physicians now recommend
a shift to a diet based in low-fat, high fiber foods which are
primarily of plant origin, such as those found in vegetarian,
vegan and macrobiotic diets. Marlene Liff-Anderson offers nutritional
counseling and cooking classes to support individuals, couples
and families who are making the transition to a healthier diet.
Marlene provides a solid nutritional foundation based upon the
research of leaders in the field: Drs. Christiane Northrup, John
McDougall, Dean Ornish and Neal Barnard.
Intaba's
down-to-earth classes are a lively combination of lecture and
cooking demonstrations, covering nutrition, food preparation techniques,
new ingredients, shopping and menu planning. Learn how to prepare
delicious, satisfying meals which are very low in fat and are
high in fiber, vitamins and minerals. Individual needs such as
food allergies and dietary restrictions are incorporated into
the instruction. Ask about our private healing intensives
and personal retreats. Marlene also provides professional
training inservices and technical assistance to hospitals,
clinics, schools and other food service programs. And don't miss
Ahimsa's monthly macrobiotic
potlucks, a great place to try new foods and meet new
people!

Imagine experiencing your authentic power, passion and joy each and every day for the rest of your life! This is the essence of living in the moment, and though we can feel cut off from our life force, at the core of our being we know that freedom exists, a precious treasure waiting to be rediscovered...
Emotional Liberation
is a body-centered process which provides us direct access to
our core essence and life force. Together, we create a sacred
space which facilitates a profound channeling and release of blocked
emotional and psychic energy. We learn to fully accept, experience
and transform "difficult" emotions such as anger, grief
and fear, inviting the unfolding of our child spirit and healing
wounds which before seemed too deep to touch. Our soul re-emerges
with brilliance and delight, as if seeing the wonders of Creation
for the first time.
Emotional Liberation is essential work for anyone
experiencing depression, stress, addiction, loss of a loved one,
recovery from childhood abuse or neglect, chronic or debilitating
physical illnesses, and anyone who desires to live to be a more
complete embodiment of freedom, love and spirit. Emotional
Liberation is also a self-help technique which empowers
us to establish healing partnerships with others, thereby strengthening
our relationships and transforming our community. Please join
us on this sacred path.
Ocean leads an ongoing group in Corvallis and Portland. Email for complete information. Private healing intensives for individuals and couples are available.

All addictions are deeply rooted in a complex web of emotional, physical & spiritual needs. The process of depression is closely related, an overall "shutting-down" of the mind/emotion/body in an attempt to mitigate the severe pain and stress of current or past experiences. The Ahimsa Sanctuary offers a natural alternative to traditional medical treatment for addiction and depression. Our multi-faceted approach honors the recovering individual's unique life experience, beliefs and inner strengths. We will develop a personalized program which combines individual or family counseling with groupwork and classes on nutrition, deep process work, meditation and/or dreamwork to address the many aspects of your recovery.
